Report: Scarborough Athletic 1-3 Farsley Celtic

The Celts got back winning ways with a 3-1 defeat of Scarborough Athletic on the North Yorkshire Coast. Goals from Jimmy Spencer (2) and Dave Syers set up the victory despite a goal for the hosts through Michael Coulson, writes Rob Winterbottom.

The game started well for the Villagers when Jimmy Spencer finished well from a Nathan Cartman through ball in the fourth minute of the match. The Celts dominated the opening fifteen minutes, before the hosts came back into the game.

Farsley held their own for the rest of the half before adding the important second just before the interval. Some great link-up play between Chris Atkinson, Cartman and Luke Parkin, resulted in the latter playing the ball into Spencer who finished brilliantly to give the Celts a two-goal halftime lead.

Early in the second period, Athletic had two good chances to halve the deficit, but James Walshaw saw an effort ruled out for offside before shooting just wide. On sixty-six minutes Dave Syers continued his good form for the Celts by adding a third by bundling in a cross from the impressive Spencer.

The hosts were piling on the pressure in the second period and got themselves back into the game with a goal from Coulson on 71 minutes, but the consolation was in vain as the Villagers held on for all three points.

We would like to thank all FCFC supporters who made the journey to Scarborough today.
