Report: Lancaster City 2-0 Farsley Celtic

Farsley’s unsteady run of form continued as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at Lancaster City earlier today, writes Mark Rawlinson.
Second half goals from Sam Bailey and Matty Blinkhorn condemned the Celts to their second league defeat in three games, after losing out to Witton Albion last Saturday.
The Dollyblues had wasted a glorious opportunity to take a 13th minute lead following unconvincing Farsley defending. Steel saw his header hit the post before Blinkhorn fired over the bar from less than a yard out; a chance that was easier to score than miss.
On 21 minutes, Adam Clayton was allowed a free header at the back post but his effort was off target.
The Celts had another good chance four minutes later as Will Hayhurst swung the ball in from the left and Ben Atkinson headed the ball towards the bottom corner, but the Lancaster goalkeeper got down well to his left to make the save.
Once again, a slow start to the second half came back to bite the Celts as Lancaster bagged the opener on 48 minutes. Bailey dribbled the ball down the right wing before firing underneath Kyle Trenerry from a narrow angle.
The hosts then doubled their lead on 65 minutes as the ball was crossed in from the right wing and Blinkhorn rose the highest to head home brilliantly.
With conditions getting ever more difficult with the rain lashing down, it was going to get harder and harder for Farsley to salvage anything from the tie.
In fact, Lancaster came closest to finding the net again in the closing stages. On 78 minutes, Trenerry came out of his goal to clear the ball and instead slipped, leaving his goal unguarded. Covering defenders got back in time to force substitute Charlie Russell to fire his shot wide of the post.
