Report: Farsley Celtic 1-1 Brackley Town

Brackley Town stun the Citadel as late equaliser secures a point for the visitors, writes Ed McIntyre.

Adam Lakeland made two changes to the side that started in Farsley’s 1-1 draw away at Hereford last Saturday. Luke Parkin and Nathan Cartman were placed on the bench to make way for Dave Syers and Akeel Francis who made his first league start.

It was an even affair in the early stages of the game, with both sides struggling to create anything clear cut.

The visitors thought that they had found the breakthrough though on 12 minutes when Lee Ndlova capitalised on a mistake from goalkeeper Kyle Trenerry. After much deliberation, Brackley’s celebrations were halted when referee Adam Williamson gave a free-kick to Farsley for a foul on the goalkeeper.

Instead, it was Farsley who broke the deadlock just a few minutes later when striker Jimmy Spencer got onto the end of a cross at the far post to smash the ball past Danny Lewis between the sticks to give the hosts a 1-0 lead heading into half-time.

Farsley continued to put pressure on the Brackley defense after the break and very nearly doubled their lead less than a minute into the second half when Dave Syers got on the end of a Jordan Richards cross from the right, but his diving header was saved well by Lewis.

But at the end of a scrappy game, Brackley managed to find an equaliser when Ndlova converted for the visitors.

It was a cruel ending to the game, but another point on the board for the Celts. Farsley manager Adam Lakeland spoke to us following the draw: “We saw the other side of the coin to what we experienced on Saturday when it was us who scored late and got a deserved point. Tonight, they’ve scored and I think they deserved a point as they’re a good side.

“It was a scrappy game, but I thought it was a good game. I thought it was a really good performance from us. They’re a top side so it’s not a bad point for us but it feels like a bad one because of the nature of their goal, but it’s one we won’t be too deflated by and we’ll take the positives into the next game.”

Farsley Celtic are next in National League North action this Saturday as they travel to Telford United.
