Report: Farsley Celtic 0-1 Kidderminster Harriers

Farsley Celtic were unlucky to not come away with any points from their home game against Kidderminster, writes Kieran Cobley.

The hosts’ inability to put chances away was taken advantage of when Kidderminster’s Oliver Shenton smashed in a late goal to win the game for the visitors.

The first half was a lively affair with both teams having good chances. Farsley almost capitalised on a well worked corner routine but couldn’t find a finish.

Kidderminster looked to have scored when Ethan Freemantle broke past the home side’s defence, only to have his effort tipped round the post by Farsley debutant Bobby Jones.

Farsley’s Tyler Walton was denied an absolute screamer when his long range effort was saved by William Mannion in the 36th minute.

The second half was a similar affair, as Farsley couldn’t take advantage of their set piece play, while Kidderminster had two great chances denied early on, one when Jones was off his line but the ball went just over, and a second just minutes later when Jones redeemed his earlier mistake by pulling off a fantastic save to deny Shenton a long range goal.

Farsley were able to deny another big chance for the visitors in the 59th minute after Jones stopped a Freemantle header to keep the sides level.

Shenton would break the deadlock in the 77th minute to put the visitors ahead, smashing the ball into the bottom corner following a well worked Kidderminster move that benefited from strong winds.

Nathan Cartman would later have a chance to bring the sides level, but couldn’t fully capitalise on the opportunity.

Alexander Prosser came close to extending the advantage late on after a clearance from Jones was caught by the wind and drifted back to the Farsley goal, with this shot being saved before Ashley Chambers also scuppered a chance to double the lead after failing to take a shot when clear on goal.
