Farsley Complete Signing of Steven Drench
Farsley Celtic are delighted to announce the signing of goalkeeper Steven Drench for the 2020/21 campaign.
The experienced goalkeeper made over 200 appearances for Guiseley from 2010-2016 and has also spent time at Halifax Town and Bradford Park Avenue in recent years.
The 34-year-old joins Farsley from Altrincham and explained his decision for joining the Celt Army, saying: “I’ve got to keep the gaffer (Adam Lakeland) and Danny Ellis happy, they ring me up every pre-season, so I’ve finally buckled!
“Seeing Farsley last year, they played Altrincham several times, and were probably one of the few teams in the league that could compete against them, to be honest, Altrincham were a very good side and Farsley probably matched them.
“I like the way we play, I know the manager from his time at Blackburn when he was there a while ago, and he likes to play football which I like to do, so I think I’ll fit into the team quite well.
“We’ve got aspirations of getting in the play-offs and potentially going up so it’s something that I was definitely attracted to.”
Adam Lakeland told FarsleyCeltic.co.uk: “I’m absolutely delighted that we’ve managed to get Drenchy on board, goalkeeper was the absolute priority for us this summer.
“I’ve known Drenchy for a number of years and he’s a top, top keeper, he’s probably been the best or one of the best in this division season after season and you look at the teams he’s played for, every single one of them has been successful, and there’s a common denominator there in him.
“I think all the best teams in any division have a top goalkeeper and he certainly fits into that bracket, he’s a great lad, he’s very experienced, he’s hungry.
“He had an injury last season that ruled him out for a long part of the campaign, so he’s hungry to get back playing, and we’re the benefactor of that.
“We’ve tried to sign him on a couple of previous occasions and for one reason or another we just didn’t quite manage to make it happen, but I’m absolutely delighted he’s joined us and he’ll make such an impact to us both on and off the pitch.”
Everyone at Farsley would like to wish Steven a warm welcome to the club!
