Joel Byrom Signs for Farsley
Farsley Celtic are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Joel Byrom from Stevenage.
The 33-year-old has spent the last decade in the Football League including two stints at Stevenage, where he was most recently after re-joining the club in 2018.
Byrom has won promotion three times since 2010, including most recently with Northampton Town in the 2015/16 season.
The midfielder explained his decision to join the club, as he said: “I just had a good conversation with the gaffer last week, he told me what his plans were for the season, and it coincided with me moving back up North, so it all made sense to me and I’m happy that I’m here.”
“I think you have to into every season hoping for the best and you’ve got to go in with a positive mindset, and hopefully I can bring that experience in the middle of the park, help us push on and have a good season.”
Tomorrow’s game with Tadcaster will also mark Byrom’s first appearance for the club, as he concluded: “Tomorrow will be the first time I’ll see the lads, I’ve just come down here to sign tonight and I just can’t wait to get going now.”
Adam Lakeland was delighted to get the deal over the line, telling FarsleyCeltic.com: “Joel’s a really good acquisition for us, he’s a top player.
“I’ve known him for quite a number of years now, he actually came and did his work experience with me when I worked in the community trust at Blackburn and you could just see then that he absolutely oozed quality.
“He has an unbelievable left foot, he’s technically very strong, he’s got every range of pass in his locker and he can strike a ball, he’s scored some fantastic goals.
“As soon as he became available I had to act on it, and I’m absolutely thrilled that he’s decided to join us.
“We’ve been incredibly reliant in my time here on Chris Atkinson in central midfield, we have got a number of other players who can play in there but they’re a little bit more offensive-minded than Chris.
“We’ve been looking for somebody who can play in there, get on the ball, bring a bit of control to our game, dictate the tempo a little bit, and Joel’s the perfect player to do that for us in my opinion.
“He’s got loads and loads of experience, he’s played at a good standard and most importantly he’s been a part of teams that have achieved promotion, so that experience in the middle of the pitch will be invaluable for us.”
Welcome to Farsley Joel!
