Report: Farsley Celtic 1-1 Leamington
An equaliser from Jack Edwards with less than three minutes remaining saw Leamington snatch a hard-earned point against Farsley in a 1-1 draw.
The Celts had led for around 80 minutes after Jordan Richards had opened the scoring, but the visitors denied Adam Lakeland’s side a first three points at the death.
The opener arrived in style seven minutes in, Richards stepping up to curl home a stunning free-kick from 25-yards out.
From that moment on neither side were able to penetrate with any sort of regularity, but it was the visitors who began to see most of the ball.
And the closest they came to levelling in the opening period was after a sustained period of pressure, with Adam Clayton making a terrific tackle on Simeon Maye, before Maye recovered the ball only to see his strike blocked by Joe West.
Junior English then had an opportunity just moments later as the half drew to a close after Lance Smith held the ball up, but English fired over from the edge of the box.
After returning to the pitch to ‘Is this the way to Amarillo’, it was Farsley who almost found the way to the back of the net less than 60 seconds after the restart. Jake Charles slipped the ball through to Jimmy Spencer who worked an opening for himself on the edge of the box, before shooting over.
A contentious moment then arrived as Tom Allan made a late challenge on Junior English which certainly displeased Leamington, but it was only a caution shown to the centre-half.
The visitors couldn’t believe they hadn’t levelled just after the hour mark, as Sam Osbourne nodded the ball across goal for Lance Smith who somehow volleyed over from point-blank range.
With 10 minutes remaining, Steven Drench was called into action as Danny Whaldron let fly, but the Farsley shot-stopper was equal to the strike as he palmed to safety.
However, with three minutes remaining the visitors’ pressure finally told, as despite the best efforts of Drench, Jack Edwards was able to bundle home at the second attempt to level the scores.
Farsley had a couple of chances to put the ball into the mixer in added time, but the Brakes’ defence stood strong for what was a deserved point.
