We are delighted to announce that Sam Kelly has agreed a deal to remain with the club next season.

The young goalkeeper joined the club from Sheffield United’s academy last summer, and made three appearances in the shortened season as Steven Drench’s deputy.

After signing his new deal, Kelly said: “It was a really easy decision for me to re-sign for next season. I’ve really enjoyed my time so far working with Minty (Gary Stokes, Goalkeeping Coach), the gaffer and Bettsy, and it’s a great bunch of lads to be around with lots of quality in the group.

“Last season was a real eye-opener for me going from under 18s and under 23s football to senior football.

“The quality at this level was probably better than I expected it to be, and I learned a lot from the games I played in.

“I hope to keep improving next season, hopefully with more senior football under my belt; I love playing and last season was a little frustrating at times for me personally, but hopefully I can get more game time in the upcoming season and keep improving.”

Adam Lakeland added: “We’re pleased that Sam will continue with us next season.

“He is a very promising young goalkeeper with an excellent appetite to learn and improve, to go with superb application to his preparation, training and self-reflection.

“We believe that Sam will go on to have a good career and play regularly at a good standard of football, but as part of his development, it’s imperative that he plays games next season, which he will do on a dual registration whilst being signed and training with ourselves.

“We look forward to continuing our work with Sam.”
