Sam Walker Joins the Celts

We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder Sam Walker.

Walker joins the Celts from Curzon Ashton, who he rejoined last November after winning back-to-back promotions in his first spell at the club.

The experienced midfielder has also spent time at Salford City, Halifax Town, Stockport County, where he won promotion from the National League North, and Chorley.

After joining the club, Walker told FarsleyCeltic.com: “After coming over to meet Adam, seeing the club and getting to know a few of the faces around here, it felt like a good fit for me to play my football.

“I’ve got a really good relationship with Adam, I think it’s fair to say he had a big role to play in me coming over to join. We had a great relationship at Curzon, and we’ve always kept in touch whilst we’ve been at other clubs, and he was a massive part in me coming here.

“Last season was very up and down, after leaving Stockport and then going to sign for Macclesfield. Obviously, everyone knows what happened with Macclesfield being wound-up, and then going to Chorley, it was a good experience but just didn’t feel like a perfect fit for me. Then after having a great start to my career with Curzon, I decided to go back there.”

A regular promotion winner over the last decade, Walker will be looking to bring his success at this level to the group.

“Those title winning experiences were amazing, it’s stuff that you look back on when your career’s all done and dusted, and they were some great teams to be a part of.

“I think with having had that experience, there are things I can pass onto some of the lads, and I’ll be looking to utilise all my experience there to help us kick on and have a really successful season.”

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Walker concluded: “I’m just hoping for a really consistent season with performances at a high level, both personally and collectively.

“Last year I think everybody was disrupted by everything going on in the world, so it’d be nice to see the league start and finish as it should do.

“And then personally, I’ll have my own goals and targets that I’ll want to reach, but all that coincides with winning as many games as possible.”

Adam Lakeland added: “I’m delighted that Sam has joined us, he’s a player that I worked with a few years ago at Curzon Ashton, and he’s a winner, he’s a leader and he’s an unbelievable competitor.

“If you look back at what he’s achieved over the last 10 years or so, he’s probably one of the most successful central midfield players in non-league, certainly within the North of the country.

“He’s a player who we’re really pleased to have on board, he’ll bring competitiveness to the middle of the park, he’s got real quality in possession, and he’s got a great left foot.

“I think he’ll really complement the other options that we have in the middle of the park, as well as giving us all of his leadership qualities on and off the pitch, so I’m really looking forward to working with him again, and I’m sure he’ll prove to be a great addition to our squad.”

Everyone at the club would like to wish Sam a warm welcome to Farsley!
