Ben McKenna Joins the Celts

We are delighted to announce the signing of winger Ben Mckenna.

The 28-year-old joins Farsley from fellow National League North side Spennymoor Town, where he spent the last two seasons.

The former Northern Ireland youth international has a wealth of experience at this level having had two spells with local rivals Bradford Park Avenue, most recently during the 2018-19 season, as well as spending time at Workington, Stalybridge Celtic, Curzon Ashton and Chester.

After signing for the Celts, Ben McKenna told FarsleyCeltic.co.uk: “I left Spennymoor at the end of last season, and my main priority was to get somewhere closer to home.

“I nearly signed for Farsley a couple of years ago, Adam (Lakeland) was interested, but it didn’t work out. With me looking to get somewhere closer to home, and with the interest from Adam still being there, I just thought it was the perfect match really.”

McKenna continued by explaining what Farsley fans can expect from him, as he said: “I’ve got a lot of experience at this level, but the one thing I think I can to bring to the squad is excitement, I’ll get at defenders, get people off their seat and try to create things for the team.

“I like to get on the ball and run at defenders, I’ll work hard and get back, I’ll help everyone out and give 100% every week.”

Adam Lakeland added: “I’m really pleased to have Ben on board, I think he’ll prove to be a really good addition to the squad, he’s incredibly fit, gets up and down, and has good pace.

“He’ll carry the ball up the pitch and get the team up the pitch from deep positions, but he’ll also receive the ball in the attacking half and he’ll be aggressive with it, he’ll run at people and past people, and put balls into the box.

“I think he’s a player that will really complement us. We had a couple of lads in on loan last season that were able to get the team up the pitch with the ball, and I felt like we became a different animal when we had that kind of quality within the team.

“I’m sure that Ben will come in and do those things for us, and I’m really looking forward to working with him.”

Everyone at the club would like to welcome Ben to Farsley!
