Young Defender Sam Bird Joins on Loan

We have today made the loan signing of young defender Sam Bird.

Sam, 18, joins on a month-long loan from League One side Fleetwood Town.

On the signing, Manager Adam Lakeland commented, “Following the loss of Joel Byrom and Sam Walker, together with the suspension of Dave Syers, a knock to Adam Clayton and Danny Ellis having a niggle, we needed to add another defensive option to our group.

“Sam played for Fleetwood here against us in our final friendly and was superb.

“He has excellent athleticism, covers the ground quickly and can operate as a full back, centre back or even in midfield.

“We have built up a strong relationship with Fleetwood over the past year or so and everyone that has joined us from there has done great, so I have no doubt Sam will be a good addition for us also and I’m looking forward to working with him.

On his arrival, Sam commented, “I am really looking forward to playing for Farsley Celtic.

“We played Farsley in a pre-season and I had a good game, winning the game 2-0, however, Farsley look like a good footballing side when they have the ball and worked hard off it as well.

“They have a good ground and facilities along with a manager who knows what he wants from his players and drives standards both on and off the pitch. What’s there not to look forward to?!

“In these next few weeks, I will learn a lot about playing with more experienced players which means I can learn from them and then implement this into my own game going forward.

“Along with that, I want to put in good performances for the team and also impress the gaffa (at Fleetwood) and show him the level I am at personally, and to show him I can compete against older players.

“Especially with three points at stake in every game, I will do my very best to help the team get the points on the table.”

Welcome to Farsley, Sam!
