Preview: York City vs Farsley Celtic (04/09/2021)

Farsley Celtic make the short trip to the LNER Community Stadium this weekend to face York City in a Yorkshire derby.

Tickets are available to purchase online and on the day, and all ticket information can be found HERE.

Form guide:
Farsley Celtic – Adam Lakeland’s side have made an unbeaten start to the new season, although the Celts were required to twice come from a goal down to draw over the Bank Holiday weekend, against Kettering Town and Blyth Spartans.

Last five games: WDDD

York City – The Minstermen suffered a difficult start to the season despite being billed as one of the title favourites, losing their opening three games to Kidderminster Harriers (2-1), Gloucester City (4-0) and Brackley Town (2-1).

However, Steve Watson’s side did bounce back on Bank Holiday Monday, earning their first three points of the season with an impressive 3-1 victory away at Spennymoor Town.

Last five games: LLLW

Team news:
Farsley Celtic – Sam Walker and Joel Byrom both remain absent through injury, however, the Celts will be boosted by the return of Dave Syers from suspension.

York City – City captain Sean Newton and Scott Barrow are both longer-term absentees, whilst Michael Duckworth is also a doubt after picking up an injury in the warm-up ahead of Monday’s victory at Spennymoor.

Josh King could return to the side after missing the Bank Holiday fixtures due to self-isolation.

Last meeting:
Farsley Celtic 1-1 York City (Saturday 10th October 2020)
For the second time since Farsley’s return to this level, there was nothing to separate the two sides when they met last year, as Dave Syers’ late header earned his side a first point of the new season.

Sean Newton handed the visitors a first-half lead when he picked up the ball just inside the box, and thundered a strike into the top corner.

Farsley pushed for the equaliser after the interval, and it arrived with six minutes remaining as Luke Parkin’s corner was headed home by Syers.

In the closing moments, it was the Celts who could have won the game – Jimmy Spencer rattled the crossbar before Pete Jameson made a strong save to deny Syers, as York clung on for a point.
